Nikonos (I) - Version 2/A

‘WHITE’

The ‘WHITE’ Nikonos camera is the rarest of the Nikonos cameras, it is identical to the Version 2 Nikonos (I) camera with the exception of the grip colour.

In the beginning the Nikon marketed the Nikonos

as  an “Underwater / Amphibious Camera”.

By July 1966, Nikon had realised the success of the Nikonos with ‘land’ users and as part of a domestic sales campaign, produced a limited number of cameras with ‘WHITE’ grips.

This was an attempt at broadening the camera’s appeal by marketing it as an “All Weather / Wide Angle Compact” camera, to be used under any environmental conditions.

Based on the known range of serial numbers recorded by collectors, it is currently estimated there may have been 100 - 150  WHITE cameras produced.
