Perhaps one of the most interesting modifications available for a Nikonos camera. This Italian made Nikonos III body top was produced by Equip Sub in Rome, to eliminate the optical viewfinder. Apparently, some Nikonos III viewfinders were prone to leakage. The modified body top also featured a reinforcing web, moulded into the plastic behind the frame counter. This reduced the possibility of distortion and cracking, when levering the body from the camera.  The manufacturer’s identification moulding was ground off these body tops when fitted to cameras in the US, image 5. It was originally positioned in front of the frame counter and shutter release, image 12.
